The Paediatric Bladder and Bowel Team are recruiting for a part‑time nurse role of 24 hours per week. The team is based at Sherwood Rise Health Centre and undertakes clinics both in the community and remotely from home. This role is ideal for a Band 5 nurse looking to progress into a Band 6 specialist role or for an experienced Paediatric Bladder and Bowel nurse seeking a Band 6 position. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated, and conscientious, with an interest in paediatric continence. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, effective task and time management, and flexibility to work within the team are essential. The role requires a personal vehicle. Hours of work will be between 8.30 – 5.00 excluding weekends and bank holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a clinical caseload of paediatric continence care patients, maintaining accurate records and data required by the service.
  • Assess and provide treatment plans for patients seen in various settings, including assessing the need for provision of products.
  • Give expert clinical advice to nurses and other NHS team members caring for children with continence problems.
  • Promote and demonstrate best practice, providing patient‑centred, evidence‑based care using clinical reasoning and sound clinical judgement.
  • Manage a complex caseload across clinical, social care and educational settings, ensuring efficient, cost‑effective running of the Home Delivery Service.
  • Set up and maintain continence clinics in a variety of settings.
  • Liaise with service managers on continence promotion issues.
  • Prepare and present written reports, maintain accurate records and statistics.
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate educational programmes and training.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of research‑based nursing practice, policies and guidelines on continence care.
  • Support and supervise clinical and support staff, students, and junior colleagues, including appraisal and induction.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical governance, risk management, confidentiality, and health & safety.

Qualifications

  • First‑level registration (child branch) or first‑level registration plus a recognised post‑basic qualification in child nursing.
  • Willingness to undertake further higher‑level study.
  • Completion of a clinical educator/practice teaching course.

Experience

  • Post‑graduate nursing experience working with children.
  • Experience caring for children and young people with continence problems.
  • Experience of multi‑disciplinary working and supervising support staff and students.
  • Teaching experience and participation in research and/or audit.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Evidence of achievement of appropriate competencies for clinical grade.
  • Awareness of current local and national policy developments.
  • Paediatric bladder and bowel assessment and treatment planning experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both one‑to‑one and in group settings.
  • Prioritisation, time management, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficient use of information technology (including Systm One).
  • Interest in continence promotion and child‑specific care.
  • Professional attitude, flexibility, adaptability, and a positive mindset.

Special Requirements

  • Full driving licence and personal vehicle; ability to travel between locations.
  • Flexibility to work within contracted hours to meet service needs.
