We are seeking a Non-Executive Director from a Health and Social Care background to enhance our experienced existing Board and play a key role in our exciting journey to deliver our strategy and our mission to Make a difference every day to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

Nottingham CityCare has a turnover of approximately £70m and currently employs 1,200 staff, providing a range of community health services across Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County.

Main duties of the job

The Board is collectively responsible for ensuring the success of Nottingham CityCare Partnership. You will play a key role to the Board by seeking assurance on the delivery of the organisations strategy, performance and governance whilst ensuring accountability to our commissioners and as a social enterprise, to the communities we serve. Job responsibilities

The Board is collectively responsible for ensuring the success of Nottingham CityCare Partnership and to play a key independent role to the Board by seeking assurance on the delivery of the organisations strategy, performance and governance whilst ensuring accountability to our commissioners and as a social enterprise, the communities we serve.

All Directors, Executive and Non-Executive have responsibility to constructively challenge the decisions of the Board and support the development of priorities, risk mitigation, standards, and strategy. The Non-Executive Director hold the organisation to account ensuring good governance and value for public money.

  • The role and responsibilities of our Non-executive Directors include the following:
  • Commit to working to, and encouraging within the organisation, the highest standards of probity, integrity and governance and contribute to ensuring that the organisations internal governance arrangements conform with best practice and statutory requirements.
  • Provide independent judgment and advice on issues of strategy, vision, performance, resources and standards of conduct and constructively challenge influence and help the Executive Board develop proposals on such strategies.
  • In accordance with agreed Board procedures, monitor the performance and conduct of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives and statutory responsibilities, including the preparation of annual reports and annual accounts and other statutory duties.
  • Contribute to the determination of appropriate levels of remuneration for Executive Directors.
  • Chair and/or participate in sub committees of the board, established to exercise delegated responsibilities.
  • Bring independent judgment and experience and expertise from outside the organisation and apply this to the benefit of the organisation, its stakeholders, and its wider community.
  • Assist fellow Directors in setting the organisations strategic aims, ensuring that the necessary financial and human resources are in place for the organisation to meet its objectives, and that performance is effectively monitored and reviewed.
  • Assist fellow Directors in providing entrepreneurial leadership to the organisation within a framework of prudent and effective controls, which enable risk to be assessed and managed and mitigated.
  • Assist fellow Directors in setting the organisations values and standards and ensure that its obligations to its stakeholders and the wider community are always understood and balanced.
  • Engage positively and collaboratively in Board discussion of agenda items and act as an ambassador for the organisation in engagement with stakeholders including the local community, dealing with the media when appropriate.
  • Scrutinise the progress of transformation initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and effective workforce adaptation.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to people, operational, culture digital, and financial aspects of the organisation.

Person SpecificationExperience

  • You will have Board level Non-Executive Director experience gained in a large, complex, public-facing organisation including:
  • Substantial successful experience, with a proven track record in a senior leadership role for a large and/or complex organisation.
  • Experience in successfully developing and leading large teams, in Health/Social Care/ social enterprise sector
  • Experience of leading or managing significant change to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
  • Experience of managing performance and quality. Ensure the voices of patients, service users, and staff shape strategic decisions and service improvements, aligned to CityCare values.
  • Experience of working with equality, diversity and inclusion matters – Experience of embedding the equality, diversity, and inclusion agenda within an organisational strategy.
  • Ability to understand, and a genuine interest in, the views of the organisations patients, staff, public, and the communities it serves, and the ability to translate those views into considerations which support planning and decision-making at Board level
  • Ability to challenge in a constructive way, with a high level of understanding of, and interest in, healthcare issues, ensuring regulatory, statutory, and governance requirements are met, promoting transparency and accountability.
  • Ability to understand and contribute to the direction of a large and complex organisation.
  • Ability to understand complex strategic issues, analyse and resolve difficult problems and support the adoption of new technologies to improve patient care, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Support leadership in building a digitally skilled, adaptable, and engaged workforce
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and promote agility and innovation, ensuring the organisation remains adaptable to future challenges and opportunities.
  • Sound, independent judgement and diplomacy – scrutinise budgets, investments, and financial risks, ensuring sustainable resource allocation and value for money.
  • Politically astute, with the ability to grasp relevant issues and understand relationships between interested parties. Represent the organisations interests with the ICB, regulators, local authorities, NHS bodies, and community partners.
  • Clear understanding, and acceptance, of the legal duties, liabilities, and responsibilities of Non- Executive Directors
  • Sufficient time and commitment to fulfil the role and the ability to attend meetings during the day.
  • Ideally you will have one or more of the following:
  • A demonstrable understanding of the strategic challenges facing the health economy
  • A demonstrable track record in effective partnership working experience or involvement in voluntary sector or community development projects.
  • Patient engagement and patient focus
  • The ability to attend board and sub-group meetings during the working day, with full participation in our 10 Board meetings each year. it is essential that you are confident in making a commitment of 2.5 days per month which will include participation in sub-committees of the Board. These appointments are for a term of 3 years.
