About the Role
The Network Management Team is committed to delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service while supporting the Council’s statutory responsibilities as Highway Authority and Local Traffic Authority.
As a Senior Traffic Officer, you will support the Principal Officer, Technical Leads and Service Manager in delivering the Council’s Network Management duties. This will include coordinating street works and highway activities, carrying out inspections, supporting the operation of the Nottingham City Permit Scheme and helping to ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant legislation.
You will work closely with utilities, contractors, developers, emergency services, public transport operators and other Council teams, providing technical advice on highway works, temporary traffic management and activities affecting the network. We are looking for a proactive and organised individual with strong communication skills who can work confidently with a range of stakeholders, use their own initiative, be calm under pressure and help minimise disruption while keeping Nottingham’s highway network moving safely and efficiently.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge and experience of working within a proactive traffic and network management environment.
- A good working knowledge of the Traffic Management Act 2004, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Highways Act 1980 and Street Works Permit Scheme requirements.
- Experience of coordinating highway and street works, working with utilities, contractors and developers, and managing activities to minimise disruption on the network.
- The ability to interpret technical and traffic management drawings and provide advice on temporary traffic management, Section 278 and Section 38 highway works.
- Experience of carrying out site inspections, with a good understanding of health and safety requirements and standards for highway works and reinstatements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to deal confidently with residents, Councillors, contractors, developers, emergency services and other partner organisations.
- A proactive, can-do approach, with the ability to work independently, solve problems and respond effectively to changing or emergency situations.
- Good organisational and IT skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, maintain accurate records and use specialist systems.
- A full driving licence with access to a vehicle for work and a willingness to travel to sites.
