Salary: Starting Salary is £40,777 (Level one) rising to £44,075 per annum (pro rata for part-time) (Pay award pending)

About The Role

We are recruiting two Policy and Strategy Officers to work in the corporate centre of the Council. The role involves supporting strategic policy development and performance management across the Council, including business planning, developing, delivering and monitoring the Council Plan and its related performance framework.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring emerging legislation and policy
  • Analysing proposals from government and partners
  • Developing informed options for implementation
  • Integrating research, consultation and customer insight into decision-making
  • Contributing to partnership intelligence networks
  • Leading projects
  • Providing written briefings and advice to senior leaders
  • Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion
  • Supporting action on climate change

About You

  • Ability to be creative, to identify problems and create solutions
  • Evidence of actively working with others to improve collaboration internally and externally
  • Good knowledge and understanding of current policy issues relating to local, regional and national government, including the implications of national policy for local government and the role of cities
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of performance management, reporting and national performance frameworks relating to local government
  • Ability to analyse written information, numerical data and basic statistics and to draw and present valid conclusions
  • Knowledge and understanding of the sensitivities of working with elected Councillors in a political environment
  • Fluency in English, as required by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016)
