Nottingham City Council is seeking a Commercial Catering Assistant Team Leader (Operations) to support the delivery of a high‑quality, customer‑focused catering service, based primarily at Café 1899, Gedling Country Park, with additional support to other commercial cafés and coffee shops when required.

About the Role
Reporting to the Commercial Catering Team Leader, you will play a key hands‑on role in the day‑to‑day supervision of Café 1899. Your focus will be on maintaining excellent food quality, presentation and service standards, while ensuring customers receive a welcoming, professional and safe experience. You will provide oversight of food preparation and service, supporting and training staff to meet high standards and leading by example in both food quality and customer care. Through effective supervision, coaching and monitoring, you will help embed a strong culture of quality, consistency and pride across the team. The role includes responsibility for supporting menu delivery, stock control, portion management and cost control, helping to ensure value for money and strong commercial performance. You will also ensure full compliance with food safety, HACCP and health & safety requirements, keeping the café audit‑ready at all times.
About You
- Experience as a Catering Supervisor, Café Manager, Chef or in a similar hospitality role
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, support and develop others
- A genuine passion for delivering high‑quality food and excellent customer service
- Knowledge of food safety, HACCP, health & safety and operational compliance
- Experience of menu costing, portion control, stock management and waste reduction
- Confidence working in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused catering environment
