Make a Real Difference in Nottingham – Join Our MST Standard Team

Thank you for your interest in joining Nottingham City Council. We have already launched an exciting period of transformation across the Council, aligned to our recent Improvement Plan.

We are committed to overcoming the challenges of recent years whilst setting an ambitious, forward-thinking course for the city’s future.

With a clear vision and a strong resolve, we are committed to creating an aspirational environment where every child and young person in Nottingham has the opportunity to achieve, learn, and be safe in their family environment.

Nottingham Children’s Services is at a critical point in its transformation journey. We are transforming our approach to delivering early help, taking on board learning from recent inspections and the national Care Review, and are focused on embedding continuous improvement across our services.

Are you passionate about supporting families, reducing harm, and helping children thrive in their homes and communities? Then this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

We’re hiring an MST Standard Therapist to join our Multi-Systemic Therapy Standard Team (MST Standard).

At Nottingham City Council, we’re proud to do things differently. We’re committed to innovation, inclusion, and improvement – not just for our city, but for the people who work with us too. From competitive pay and generous leave to an excellent pension scheme and a real sense of purpose, we offer more than just a job – we offer the chance to build a career that matters.

Now, we’re looking for someone who shares our values – someone driven, compassionate and ready to create lasting change for Nottingham’s families.

About the Role

Our MST Standard team works intensively with families where children are at risk of out-of-home placement in either care or custody due to their offending or having severe behaviour problems. This evidence-based programme is designed to identify, early, those in need of intensive support, reduce risk, keep families safely together, and improve long-term outcomes for both children and parents.

As an MST Standard Therapist, you’ll deliver targeted, home-based interventions (not in a clinical setting) tailored to each family’s unique needs. This includes multiple weekly sessions, flexible scheduling, and 24/7 on-call support during active treatment phases. Therapists will support five to six families for 20 weeks (per family) of intensive clinical intervention.

Your work will help:

  • Keep children safely at home by implementing evidence-based interventions to increase support within the family’s natural ecology.
  • Reduce anti-social behaviour through behaviour modification and addressing the behaviours in their early stages using targeted and impactful interventions.
  • Prevent school exclusion and Police arrests with the engagement of the lead professional, the team around the family and the family ecology.
  • Reduce mental health difficulties for both children and adults through CBT interventions focusing on altering maladaptive thoughts and behaviours.
  • Build stronger, more resilient family and community support networks by co-working with key agencies and promoting the family’s autonomy to be the vessel of change.
  • Increase protective factors and decrease risk factors associated with Child Criminal Exploitation and Child Sexual Exploitation.

To ensure your success in your role, you’ll receive comprehensive MST Standard training, regular supervision, and ongoing clinical support.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a strong professional background and the passion to make a real impact.

You’ll need:

  • A bachelor’s qualification in a relevant field (e.g. social work, mental health nursing, clinical psychology)
  • Solid experience in family-based interventions with young people
  • Practical knowledge of therapeutic models such as CBT, SFBT, systemic or behavioural approaches
  • A deep understanding of safeguarding and risk management
  • Experience of managing complex cases and driving positive outcomes

You’ll also need to be willing to take part in our on-call rota, and an enhanced DBS check for regulated activity is required.

Alongside the chance to change lives, you’ll also benefit from:

  • Full MST Standard model training and CPD
  • Weekly clinical supervision and consultation
  • Flexible, family-centred working
  • A culture that values your wellbeing and professional growth
