This is a varied, active role that makes a real difference to the quality, safety and appearance of our neighbourhoods. You will be responsible for the caretaking and cleaning of communal areas across a range of housing settings, including high‑rise and low‑rise blocks, independent living schemes, garage sites and surrounding grounds. The role involves travelling between multiple sites each day, so the ability to drive and work flexibly across the city is essential.

Working as part of a supportive city‑wide team, you will carry out routine cleansing, bulky waste removal, grounds maintenance and graffiti removal, while monitoring buildings and facilities and reporting repairs or safety issues promptly. You will have regular contact with residents, colleagues and partner agencies, providing a visible, approachable and professional service.

About You

  • Experience or ability in building cleaning and caretaking functions including removing refuse, which may be bulky or heavy on occasions.
  • A full, clean driving licence and be willing and able to drive for work; must be able to work in any area within the city conurbation, including providing cover in high and low rise complexes, should a service need arise.
  • Experience of effectively resolving customer care issues.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision by dealing with emergencies and difficult situations calmly and effectively.
  • Experience working within and understanding of Health and Safety policies and procedures with the ability to understand written instructions, including procedures and practices particularly in respect of health and safety issues.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards BICs Level 1 and/or NVQ Level 2 in cleaning and customer care.
