Job Description

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: hours per year. This is a 4 days on 4 days off role with an 11 hours shift starting at 03:00-14:00

Worker Type: Onsite Worker

Salary: Starting Salary is £40,777 (Level one) rising to £44,075 (Level four) per annum \’pro rata for part-time\’

About the Role

To lead, manage and develop the activities of a range of Waste collections and Street Cleansing operations across a locality and co-ordinate city wide operations in partnership with Service Manager and Senior Operations Manager.

The post holder will lead a team of frontline staff in improving and maintaining the appearance of the adopted Highway, having direct responsibility for street cleansing and Waste Management provisions and influencing or collaborating with other public realm services such as Greenspace, Highways and Community Protection.

Drive forward efficiencies and the improved productivity in all aspects of operations and service delivery

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in managing frontline teams delivering street cleansing and/or waste management services, with the ability to plan and deploy resources effectively to achieve best value.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, including performance management, recruitment, and fostering a positive team culture across diverse teams.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to respond to enquiries from residents, colleagues, and Councillors, and represent the service at community and multi-agency meetings.
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and practices, with experience in conducting risk assessments, developing safe systems of work, and promoting a culture of compliance.
  • Ability to support and promote national recycling campaigns, ensuring local engagement aligns with central government targets for recycling and carbon neutrality.
