Role: Building Technical Officer
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Worker Type: Hybrid
Salary: Grade G – Starting Salary £36,363 (Level one) rising to £39,152 (Level four)
Location: Harvey Road (NG8 3BB) – base location, with travel required to other offices and work sites as needed.
About The Role
We are seeking a proactive and customer‑focused Building Technical Officer to join Nottingham City Council Housing Services within our Asset team. This role plays a key part in improving residents’ homes, focusing on damp and mould, and managing legal disrepair works to ensure safe, healthy living environments.
The Building Technical Officer will:
- Oversee contractor performance on site, carrying out inspections, monitoring quality and progress, and ensuring works are delivered on time, within budget and to the required standards.
- Collaborate with construction partners and internal teams to resolve issues quickly, including customer concerns, access challenges and tenant welfare matters.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety requirements and Council standards.
- Maintain accurate project records, contribute to effective contract management, and support continuous service improvement.
About You
Ideal candidates will have:
- Experience of undertaking property surveys, identifying defects, reporting writing and recommending appropriate remedial action.
- Thorough knowledge of building construction and maintenance principles.
- Proficiency in computers – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to monitor and oversee contractors and subcontractors throughout all stages of site preparation, execution, monitoring, completion and handover.
- Ability to undertake onsite inspections and surveying measurements to ensure that all works meet required standards and scope.
- Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
