Leicestershire County Council is seeking an experienced, motivated Senior Social Worker (Level 3) to join our Adults & Communities department. This is a key role for an ambitious practitioner who can confidently lead on complex casework, provide high‑quality statutory social care, and champion strengths‑based, person‑centred practice.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Learning Disability and Autism Team, North West Leicestershire for an experienced level 3 Social Worker. All our teams are friendly and supportive, with regular supervision and our employees have manageable workloads. The teams hold weekly Group Supervision Meetings, to promote the best possible outcomes for the people we work with across Leicestershire. We provide a comprehensive induction package with ongoing access to bespoke learning and development opportunities. This includes tailored continuous professional development sessions and access to academic research and practice expertise to develop skills, experience and inform our employee’s practice.

As a Level 3 Social Worker/senior Social worker, you will:

  • Hold a predominantly complex and high‑risk caseload, including cases involving complex disability, court work and safeguarding, complex family dynamics, financial or legal issues, or high‑profile referrals.
  • Work with significant autonomy, exercising advanced professional judgement and recognising when escalation or management oversight is appropriate.
  • Lead on complex assessments, crisis interventions, safeguarding enquiries, Mental Capacity Act work, court work & DoLS considerations and Continuing Health Care processes.
  • Deliver high‑quality, asset‑based, person‑centred interventions, enabling adults to maximise independence, manage risk and direct their own support.
  • Demonstrate advanced problem‑solving, negotiation and conflict‑management skills across multi‑agency settings.
  • Produce strong analytical reports, court‑level documentation and comprehensive assessments.
  • Facilitate complex care and support plans, lead multi‑disciplinary discussions and contribute specialist expertise to the wider team.
  • Provide supportive guidance to less‑experienced staff and demonstrate capability aligned to the Professional Capabilities Framework (Experienced / Senior Social Worker level).
  • Maintain an advanced working knowledge of key legislation including the Care Act, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and all statutory safeguarding duties.

You will play a crucial role in maintaining high professional standards, shaping good practice, and contributing to team development and service improvement.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker and registered with Social Work England.
  • Have excellent working knowledge of social work methodologies, social care policies such as person-centred approaches and asset based social work, and relevant legislation including The Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Have experience of effective assessment and risk management delivery, safeguarding practices and court work experience and multi-agency/multidisciplinary working and/or hospital discharge processes is essential.
  • Ideally have experience of working directly with people with Learning Disability and Autism & Have experience of partnership working with adults to identify and meet need with creative and pragmatic solutions.
  • Be a confident communicator who is skilled in diplomacy, persuasion, assertive and conflict management and able to build effective working relationships.
  • Be able to work proactively individually but also as a team member & contribute to the duty function as part of the team on a regular basis.
  • Have good prioritisation and time management skills and have a valid UK driving licence or access to a vehicle.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for this role. A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
