Contract Type: Fixed Term (12 months)

Working Hours: 22.2 hours per week. 8.45am to 4.45pm Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Approximately 12 weekends (Saturdays, Sundays, Bank Holidays) are required to be worked as well with time given off in lieu.

About the Role:

One 12 month Fixed Term, Part time (3 day) Post is available. We are seeking highly motivated and professional applicants with excellent levels of customer service experience, strong administration, numeracy and IT skills. They must be quick to learn and able to work with a high level of accuracy and commitment. They must be flexible and adaptable in the face of challenges but have empathy for their colleagues and customers.

The role involves:

  • Registering Births and Deaths
  • Notices of Marriages and Civil Partnerships by appointment
  • Administration work
  • Conducting or registering marriages and civil partnerships

Whilst the majority of the role is Registration Services, there will be occasions where you may be asked to work with colleagues alongside events organisers at the Council House. Applicants will be expected to learn a variety of working systems, be highly accurate in spelling, numeracy and be able to comprehend legislative regulations and have the confidence to work alone with customers.

When working on events or ceremonies, hours of work will be flexible, depending on the event but all persons will be on a 24 hour 7 day contract and will be expected to work Monday to Wednesday as well as weekends on a rota basis (usually once a month with time off given in lieu).

The role is based at the Council House, Old Market Square but requires travelling to licensed sites within Nottingham City boundaries with transport being provided. As an approximate indication, Ceremonies and Events form less than 5% of the working week.

About You:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customers and understand issues from the customer’s perspective.
  • Excellent IT skills (excellent keyboard & typing skills, ability to learn new systems and use accurately).
  • Ability to spell accurately and clearly.
  • Proven experience in being organised at work and meeting deadlines.
  • Flexibility, resilience and willingness for personal and professional development.
  • Proven experience of understanding and applying complex regulations and procedures and working on own initiative, relying on judgement when working alone or out of hours.

This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for the role.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

The role requires you to participate in the on-call rota.
