As a Public Realm Operative within Grounds Maintenance, you will support the upkeep and improvement of outdoor spaces across Nottingham. The role involves practical outdoor work such as:
- Grass cutting
- Strimming
- Hedge cutting
- Pruning
- Weeding
- Litter picking
- Leaf clearance
- General maintenance of communal areas, parks, housing estates or public spaces
You may also use hand tools, powered equipment and grounds maintenance machinery, while following safe working practices and helping to ensure local areas are clean, safe, tidy and welcoming for residents, visitors and communities.
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential qualifications:
A current and appropriate driving licence, where required for the role, and a willingness to complete any relevant training or qualifications required for the post, such as health and safety, safe handling of chemicals, pesticide use or other job-related certification.
Essential experience:
Experience of practical outdoor work such as grounds maintenance, gardening, grass cutting, hedge cutting, cleansing, estate maintenance, refuse/recycling, landscaping or similar frontline environmental services. Experience using hand tools, powered tools, plant, equipment or vehicles would be beneficial.
Essential knowledge:
An understanding of health and safety requirements, safe working practices, manual handling, road safety where applicable, and the safe use of tools, equipment and machinery. Knowledge of general gardening techniques, including grass cutting, border maintenance, pruning and site upkeep, would also be helpful.
Essential skills and competencies:
A reliable, flexible and practical approach to work; ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; ability to carry out physically demanding tasks safely; good teamwork and communication skills; ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision; commitment to good customer care, equality and diversity, and maintaining clean, safe and welcoming public spaces.
