About the Role
As an Operational Logistics Officer, you will play a key role in coordinating and delivering Waste and Street Cleansing services across the city. You will be responsible for managing daily operations, optimising service schedules, and ensuring frontline activities are delivered efficiently and in line with performance standards. The role involves close working with frontline teams, managers, residents, and contractors, using digital systems and data to drive continuous improvement, respond to service demands, and maintain high levels of operational performance. This position supports service delivery across areas including waste collection, street cleansing, bulky waste, and associated logistics functions.
We are recruiting for 2 Operational Logistics Officers to provide service coverage across extended operational hours. The posts will operate on separate shift patterns of 07:00–15:00 and 14:00–22:00, ensuring consistent operational oversight and responsiveness throughout the day.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential qualifications
· Relevant operational or logistics qualification or equivalent experience within a public service or operational environment
Essential experience
· Experience in logistics, scheduling or operational coordination, ideally within waste management, street cleansing or a related service
· Experience working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities and responding to service demands
· Experience engaging with customers, stakeholders, or the public and resolving service enquiries
Essential knowledge
· Knowledge of operational service delivery within waste or public realm services
· Understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices
· Awareness of local service delivery challenges and the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Essential skills and competencies
· Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage competing demands
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences
· Ability to analyse data and use digital systems to support decision-making and improve service delivery
· Confident problem-solver with a proactive, solution-focused approach
· Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with frontline teams, managers and partners
· Competent IT skills, including Microsoft 365 and operational systems (e.g. scheduling/reporting tools)
