Location: The Adaptations Workshop in Lenton, with daily travel across Nottingham, office base is Loxley House with potential for working from on admin tasks.

About the Role:

The Preventative Adaptations (PAD) scheme helps older residents remain safe, independent and living in their own homes for longer. As a Joiner / Multi Skilled Operative (Home Adaptations), you will assess residents' homes and identify appropriate minor adaptation solutions that improve accessibility, reduce falls risks and promote independent living. You will plan and install small adaptation schemes and liaise with a contractor on some larger works. Through the provision of these adaptations and practical solutions, you will play a key role in supporting independent living and preventing avoidable hospital admissions and admissions to residential care.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out environmental and person-centred risk assessments within residents' homes.
• Planning and installing a range of home adaptations and falls prevention equipment, including grab rails to baths, showers, walls and entrance doors, additional stair rails, chair raisers, threshold strips, minor joinery adaptations, and accessibility improvements designed to promote independent living.
• Removing trip hazards and undertaking practical works to reduce falls risks within the home.
• Preparing, manufacturing and modifying handrails and other adaptation components within a workshop environment.
• Providing practical advice on home safety and falls prevention.
• Liaising with Occupational Therapy colleagues, signposting residents to other services and working collaboratively with partner agencies where appropriate.
• Managing stock, tools, materials and equipment, ensuring safe storage and transportation.
• Maintaining accurate manual and electronic records.
• Monitoring contractor works where required to ensure quality and value for money.
• Driving a Council vehicle across Nottingham to undertake home visits, installations and repairs.

The role requires strong practical and technical skills, excellent organisation and the ability to work independently while providing a high-quality, customer-focused service to residents.

About You:

We are looking for someone with experience in installation, repairs, maintenance, adaptations, joinery or other practical trade-based roles who enjoys helping people and takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.

Essential Criteria:

• Experience of making, preparing, installing, repairing or maintaining adaptations or similar works within domestic settings.
• Sound technical knowledge of using appropriate tools, fixings and installation methods across a range of surfaces and property types.
• Ability to work independently and manage your own workload, materials and daily route planning.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with residents, including older people and those with physical disabilities.
• Experience of maintaining accurate written and electronic records.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements relating to installation, storage, transportation and use of equipment and materials.
• Ability to work in a flexible manner and adapt to changing priorities.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and excellent customer service.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

• Experience of working within home adaptations, housing repairs, maintenance or community-based services.
• Awareness of falls prevention principles and the needs of older or disabled residents.

A DBS Enhanced Check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
