About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Nottingham City Council Housing Services as an Asbestos Officer, working within the Building Safety Team. The role plays a key part in supporting the safe management of asbestos across council housing stock and associated buildings, helping to protect residents, staff, contractors, and the wider community.
You will support the Asbestos Manager with the coordination of asbestos surveys, re-inspections, contractor liaison, record keeping, and asbestos-related enquiries. The role operates in a safety‑critical and regulated environment and requires sound judgement, attention to detail, and effective communication.
About You
We are looking for a capable and motivated officer with relevant experience in asbestos management, housing or property services, building safety, health and safety, or a related technical or compliance-based role, who can operate confidently in a regulated and safety-critical environment. Applicants may come from a range of backgrounds, including local authority or housing providers, asbestos consultancy, surveying, construction, or property management. Candidates must hold a recognised asbestos surveying qualification and be able to demonstrate the practical application of asbestos knowledge in a work setting. Ongoing training and professional development will be supported.Essential Requirements:
- Relevant experience in asbestos management, housing compliance, building safety, health & safety, or a construction / maintenance environment.
- A recognised asbestos surveying qualification, such as BOHS P402 (or RSPH Level 3 Award in Asbestos Surveying).
- A working knowledge of asbestos risks, legislation, and safe systems of work, or demonstrable experience in a building safety‑related role.
- Experience working with contractors and internal stakeholders in a regulated or compliance‑focused setting.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to deal professionally and sensitively with residents and colleagues.
Desirable Requirements:
- UKATA or RSPH Duty to Manage Asbestos qualification.
- BOHS P405 (Management of Asbestos in Buildings).
- Other recognised asbestos proficiency or management‑related qualifications.
- Experience working with an asbestos register or compliance system.
- Experience working within a local authority, housing association, or other public‑sector landlord.
- Experience supporting asbestos surveys, removals, or asbestos‑related incident response.
