About the Role

The post holder will play a key role within the Street Lighting team. The ideal candidate will be supporting project managers involved in the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) project as a technical lead during the design phase and then overseeing & reporting performance once Charge Point Operators assets have been energised. Additionally, the ideal candidate will assist the Street Lighting Senior Engineer in the design and delivery of street lighting schemes for external clients. The role will provide an opportunity to contribute to the development of sustainable transport infrastructure while also supporting the team in generating additional contributions through the provision of professional street lighting design and consultancy services.

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking street lighting design work, preparing technical information and specifications, cable calculations, liaising with clients and contractors, and ensuring schemes are delivered to the required standards and budgets. They will also contribute to the design/ delivery & management of EV charging infrastructure through the LEVI programme, working with internal teams, charge point operators, contractors, and other stakeholders to help deliver an effective and accessible public charging network.

The role requires someone who can work flexibly across both areas of the service, balancing the requirements of a strategic infrastructure programme with the delivery of commercially focused street lighting work for external clients. The post holder will be expected to explore & identify opportunities to improve the service, develop positive client relationships, support the generation of additional contributions to the continued development and reputation of the Street Lighting team.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate sound technical knowledge, strong organisational and project management skills, commercial awareness and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. They will be expected to work independently while also contributing to the wider team and adapting to changing priorities as the LEVI programme and external client workload develop

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria

  • HNC Electrical/Electronic engineering (or equivalent qualification) and/or demonstrate relative experience in street lighting, electrical engineering, highways, transport, project management or a related discipline, with a willingness to develop specific knowledge of EV infrastructure and the LEVI requirements.
  • Relevant experience must include a working knowledge of highways street lighting design (including cable calculations), street lighting maintenance, electrical or transport environment, ideally including delivery or maintenance of electrical infrastructure and public-sector projects.
  • Knowledge of EV infrastructure, including the design, installation, operation and maintenance of EV charge points, electrical connections, power requirements and associated street works.
  • The candidate will also be expected to assist/ mentor junior members of the team to help their progression whilst although minimal giving support to the wider team.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, standards and guidance, including highway requirements, electrical safety, health and safety, accessibility associated with public EV charging infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with the charge point operators. Although limited, further communication with residents, businesses, network operators, contractors and members of the public may be required.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, assess technical information, monitor & report project performance, maintain accurate records and identify practical solutions as a technical lead to issues arising during LEVI delivery.
