Are you an experienced HR Practitioner? Are you able to deliver a comprehensive HR service to a range of customers facing a range of differing challenges?

About the Role

As a HR Adviser - Performance Management, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive HR advisory service to managers across the Council, helping them to address workforce issues confidently, consistently and in line with Council policy, employment legislation and best practice. A key part of the role is providing practical advice, coaching and hands-on support to line managers managing complex casework, including attendance management, performance management, probation and ill-health matters. This includes supporting meetings and hearings, assessing risk, advising on appropriate outcomes, and working with senior managers, HR colleagues, legal colleagues and trade union representatives where needed. The role also contributes to the wider improvement of people management practice across the Council. This includes delivering training, coaching and knowledge-sharing for managers, supporting the review and development of HR policies and guidance, participating in job evaluation panels, and helping to design and evaluate interventions that improve attendance, wellbeing and employee productivity. In addition, you will also be required to use data and insight to identify trends, produce reports and support informed decision-making. You will work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support wellbeing initiatives, attendance management campaigns and continuous improvement across the HR service.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant degree or professional/management qualification or an equivalent level of relevant and significant operational experience.
  • Experience of providing effective and practical HR advice and support on the full range of HR topics including attendance management, capability, and probation.
  • Experience of the effective management of a busy and varied portfolio of complex and challenging cases, and of attending meetings and hearings in support of line management colleagues.
  • Experience of successfully managing relationships with both internal and external customers and of working with a wide variety of stakeholders including trade unions and senior managers.
  • Excellent understanding of employment legislation and case law, in particular in relation to disability discrimination and reasonable adjustments.
  • Experience of designing and delivering training and development solutions and of writing effective reports for management meetings and/or committees.
  • Ability to travel to work locations in a cost-efficient way.
