We very much value the role Paralegals play in supporting our work and in continuing to enhance our reputation, so you will be closely supported, mentored and supervised but also be given the opportunities to undertake a wide range of quality case management work.

About the Role

Are you a Law Graduate and/or have completed your LPC or BPTC? Are you looking to gain experience whilst working towards the SQE? Are you a recent CILEX Graduate Member looking to build experience ahead of an application for Fellowship of CILEX? Are you a Fellow of CILEX? Are you interested in pursuing a career in Court of Protection/Adult Social Care Law?

You will be providing enhanced paralegal support to a team of friendly, busy and experienced court of protection/adult social care lawyers. Our approach is to equip our paralegals with the skills and experience necessary to go on to become fully qualified lawyers should they wish to do so.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have a law degree and/or completed the LPC/BPTC or completed the equivalent Legal Executive qualification.
  • Experience of compiling and checking court bundles.
  • Considerable and recent experience of working within a legal environment such as a firm of solicitors, in-house legal department, law centre or citizens advice bureau to include experience of drafting legal documentation.
  • Experience of working with litigation/decision-making processes.
  • Desirable to have knowledge of Adult Social Care Legislation including Care Act and Mental Capacity Act including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Demonstrates understanding of judicial decision making processes and evidence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Good drafting skills and ability to draft both standard and non-standard legal documents using and applying knowledge of legal matters as appropriate.
  • Using initiative to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and customers to identify effective solutions.
  • Ability to assimilate information rapidly and to present it orally or in writing in a clear unambiguous and concise way.
  • Planning and organisation and able to prioritise work effectively.
  • Working autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Able to make decisions on where and to whom to refer legal matters.
  • Ability to check and monitor costs, including assessing and feeding back any impact against the projected programmes and targets.
  • Must be computer literate with experience of MSWord, Excel, Outlook and computerised case management systems and video conferencing software.
  • Having a strong quality and customer focus.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and able to work on own initiative with limited supervision.
  • Organised and methodical paying particular attention to detail.
  • Approachable, co-operative, tactful, diplomatic as appropriate to the confidentiality required.
  • Professional appearance commensurate with a customer facing role.
  • Possession of a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
