Role: Safety, Health and Environment Advisor
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm
Worker Type: Hybrid Worker
Salary: Grade H - Starting Salary is £40,777 (Level one) rising to £44,075 (Level four) per annum
Location: Harvey Road (NG8 3BB) will be the contracted base for this role, but the postholder will be expected to be able to travel to other offices including Loxley House (NG2 3NG) and work sites, as needed.

About the Role:
As a Safety, Health and Environment Advisor within Nottingham City Council Housing Services, you will play a key role in creating a safe, compliant and supportive environment for our colleagues, residents and partners. Working as part of our dedicated Health and Safety Team, you’ll help deliver and continuously improve our health, safety and emergency management systems across a diverse range of housing services. In this varied role, you will use your expertise to provide clear, practical advice and imaginative solutions on a wide range of safety matters. You will contribute to policy development, lead and support risk assessments, and help ensure our systems, processes and guidance remain robust, up to date and aligned with emerging legislation and best practice. You’ll build strong relationships with managers, employees, trade unions, statutory agencies and partner organisations, supporting collaborative approaches to safety and wellbeing. You will also deliver engaging training, carry out audits and investigations, provide advice and guidance during site visits, and carry out inspections. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a high-profile public service setting, helping to protect people, strengthen resilience and promote a positive safety culture across Housing Services.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent and relevant membership of IOSH.
- Ability to demonstrate specialist skills, knowledge and experience in current Health & Safety topics affecting housing providers including Workplace Health & Safety, Construction, Repairs and Maintenance, Compliance, Building and Fire Safety and Occupational Health.
- Able to develop and present written and verbal information in a clear and concise manner, and to communicate effectively with employees at all levels from front-line staff to senior managers and Trades Union Safety Representatives.
- Experience of working with others to improve organizational safety culture.
- Proven experience of the practical application of legislation in the workplace.
- Experience of leading training and workshops.
