As a trusted technical leader, you'll mentor engineers, guide reliability improvements across teams, solve complex platform challenges, and act as the go-to expert for Azure reliability, helping teams deliver dependable experiences for our customers and colleagues alike.

Here’s a taste of what you will be doing as a Lead Cloud Site Reliability Engineer at Nottingham Building Society:

  • Lead Azure Platform Reliability: Take ownership of Azure-hosted production services, ensuring high levels of availability, resilience, performance, and operational excellence across a complex technology estate.
  • Champion Site Reliability Engineering (SRE): Define, implement, and continuously improve SRE practices, driving proactive reliability, incident prevention, and service optimisation.
  • Design Resilient Cloud Architectures: Deliver highly available solutions with robust disaster recovery, backup, failover, and business continuity capabilities built in by design.
  • Drive Observability & Performance: Lead monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance analysis using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights to maximise service health and customer experience.
  • Automate at Scale: Promote an automation-first culture through Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and modern CI/CD pipelines, improving consistency, speed, and quality.
  • Develop Modern Cloud Platforms: Support and evolve containerised environments including AKS and Kubernetes, ensuring platforms are secure, scalable, and future-ready.
  • Optimise Cost, Security & Standards: Ensure Azure services deliver value for money while embedding security, resilience, governance, and industry best practice into every solution.
  • Provide Technical Leadership: Mentor engineers, contribute to technical standards and documentation, and collaborate with delivery teams to successfully support a technology estate serving 500+ users, 50+ sites, 500+ servers, and 100+ applications.

About You:

  • Azure & Cloud Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Linux, virtualisation technologies, and modern cloud hosting platforms.
  • Broad Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of networking, firewalls, connectivity, identity and access management (Active Directory/Entra), and application hosting technologies.
  • Operational Excellence Mindset: A strong grasp of platform availability, performance, capacity planning, resilience, and service reliability in complex IT environments.
  • Problem-Solving & Technical Delivery: A logical and analytical thinker with excellent troubleshooting skills, capable of managing incidents, implementing changes, and delivering high-quality outcomes with minimal supervision.
  • Communication & Collaboration Skills: Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, while building strong relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Process-Driven & Quality Focused: Experienced in structured IT environments, with an appreciation of ITIL principles, governance, documentation, and best practice change management.
  • Ownership & Continuous Improvement: Proactive in identifying opportunities to enhance cloud platforms, operational processes, and technical standards, while taking ownership of incidents, tasks, and project deliverables.
  • Relevant Certifications & Experience: Azure, ITIL, Microsoft, Linux, or other cloud-related certifications are desirable, alongside demonstrable experience supporting and improving enterprise-scale technology environments.
