As the Heat Network Strategy Manager, you will shape and deliver NHG’s heat network strategy, ensuring our services remain sustainable, compliant, customer-focused, and commercially effective. Reporting into the Energy and Water team, you will lead on the strategic development of heat network delivery models, governance frameworks, and regulatory readiness across NHG’s growing portfolio.
You’ll oversee the integration of new heat networks into operational business functions, manage relationships with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and external consultants, and ensure compliance with evolving heat network regulation and statutory frameworks. Working closely with internal teams, developers, local authorities, government bodies, and third-party partners, you’ll play a key role in supporting NHG’s environmental ambitions and delivering high-quality services for residents.
How you’ll do it
- Develop and implement NHG’s heat network strategies, policies, and delivery models.
- Lead on heat network regulatory compliance, including Ofgem submissions and delivery of the heat network regulation readiness action plan.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on NHG and leading consultation responses where appropriate.
- Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and governance frameworks that drive continuous improvement across heat network services.
- Lead procurement exercises for ESCO services and manage associated contracts and supplier relationships.
- Oversee the appointment and management of legal and commercial consultants supporting strategic heat network delivery.
- Coordinate the successful integration of new heat network schemes into operational business functions.
- Identify opportunities for connection to existing district heat networks and support strategic growth opportunities.
- Review leases and tenancy agreements to ensure alignment with charging and operational processes.
- Develop robust compliance reporting processes, maintaining accurate records and systems.
- Manage risks associated with heat network operations and regulatory obligations.
- Conduct research and represent NHG at industry events, forums, and stakeholder meetings to inform strategic direction and best practice.
The ideal candidate
- Relevant professional qualification in an energy or environmental field, or equivalent experience in a similar role for 3+ years.
- Strong understanding of heat network infrastructure, operations, and delivery models.
- Knowledge of ESCO structures and energy service delivery vehicles.
- Understanding of relevant heat network regulations and statutory frameworks.
- Significant experience in contract management and supplier engagement.
- Experience working with developers, contractors, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Strong research, reporting, and presentation skills.
- Excellent project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams effectively.
- Proven stakeholder management and relationship-building capability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate IT and systems skills, including Microsoft Office.
