What you’ll do

As a Paralegal (Litigation), you’ll play a key role within our in-house Legal Services team, providing expert legal support across a broad range of housing management, tenancy enforcement and disrepair matters.

Working closely with colleagues across Housing, Repairs, Safeguarding and Operational teams, you’ll manage your own varied caseload, providing practical legal advice that protects the organisation while delivering fair and resident-focused outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex housing litigation, helping operational teams make informed decisions and ensuring legal matters are progressed efficiently, professionally and compassionately.

  • How you’ll do it
  • Manage your own caseload covering housing management litigation, possession proceedings, injunctions, disrepair claims, anti-social behaviour, tenancy fraud, succession, leasehold disputes, rent recovery and service charge matters.
  • Provide specialist legal advice to operational and repairs teams, particularly around housing disrepair and Pre-Action Protocol claims.
  • Prepare legal documentation including witness statements, court bundles, pleadings, reports and legal correspondence.
  • Represent NHG at court hearings, mediation meetings, local authority panels and other external forums where appropriate.
  • Work closely with external panel solicitors where specialist legal support is required.
  • Build strong relationships across Housing, Repairs, Service Charges, Asset Management and Safeguarding teams.
  • Deliver training, coaching and practical legal guidance to operational colleagues.
  • Identify legal risks early and provide practical, commercially focused solutions.
  • Maintain accurate case records and performance reporting using legal case management systems.
  • Support continuous improvement projects across the Legal Services team.

You’ll also need to have good written skills and be very organised in order to meet deadlines and ensure the work of the team runs smoothly.

Essential

  • Law degree, CILEx or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience managing your own legal caseload.
  • Experience within a legal department, housing association, local authority or similar environment.
  • Good knowledge of housing law, leasehold law and Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Experience handling litigation, housing management or disrepair matters.
  • Excellent legal drafting and report writing skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.
  • Experience using legal databases and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to identify legal risk and provide practical solutions.
