As the Financial Accounting and Control Manager, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining a robust financial control environment across designated group entities. Reporting into the Finance leadership team, you will oversee statutory reporting, financial controls, audit delivery and regulatory submissions, ensuring the organisation meets its financial and governance obligations with accuracy and integrity.
You will lead the preparation of statutory accounts, manage interim and year-end audits, oversee key financial reconciliations, and provide expert technical accounting advice across the business. You’ll also drive continuous improvement within the Financial Accounting and Control function, ensuring high-quality reporting, strong financial governance, and value-adding financial insight.
As a senior member of the Finance team, you’ll champion customer focus, continuous improvement and collaboration, helping to deliver excellent financial services that support the organisation’s strategic objectives and deliver the best outcomes for our residents.
How you’ll do it
- Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory accounts for designated group entities, ensuring compliance with all accounting standards.
- Oversee the delivery of interim and year-end external audits, working closely with auditors to ensure timely completion.
- Conduct detailed analytical reviews of financial statements, identifying risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare and submit regulatory financial returns, including Financial Viability Assessments (FVA) and Companies House filings.
- Manage monthly intercompany and payroll control account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor and report on the financial health of group entities, providing assurance to senior management and the Audit & Risk Committee.
- Deliver continuous improvements across financial accounting processes, controls and reporting.
- Partner with Finance Business Partners and operational teams to ensure timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Monitor departmental KPIs and performance, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Support the development of finance processes, standards and training across the team.
- Line manage, coach and develop Financial Accountants, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous learning.
The ideal candidate

Essential:
- CCAB recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) with evidence of continuing professional development.
- Significant experience within financial accounting, statutory reporting and financial control.
- Strong knowledge of UK statutory reporting requirements and regulatory financial returns, including FVA and Companies House submissions.
- Experience leading interim and year-end external audits.
- Ability to provide expert technical accounting advice across a complex organisation.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information and provide practical recommendations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Proven experience managing and developing finance professionals.
- A continuous improvement mindset with experience implementing more efficient financial processes and controls.
