ENGLISH at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College seeks a well‑qualified, high‑performing, enthusiastic individual to lead and inspire students. This post will join a team of professionals in a growing subject area. As student numbers continue to grow in English, we are excited to look for an additional member of staff. You should have a track record of outstanding success and be committed to providing the highest quality education for all students. The English department is high‑performing with consistent achievement of outstanding ALPs value added, demonstrating sustained year‑on‑year success. The department is lively, dynamic and progressive in its approaches to delivering the four specifications we currently offer. We welcome applications from teachers who feel they could make an immediate contribution to the teaching of at least two of our A‑Level courses in addition to our GCSE course. Currently, over 400 A‑Level students take AQA Specification A English Literature, AQA specification English Language and AQA specification English Language and Literature. The department also caters for approximately 70 students who are re‑sitting English Language GCSE, following the Eduqas specification. The department has made a major contribution to the academic standing of the College, both locally and nationally, with extensive enrichment provision and prestigious visiting speakers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality learning, teaching and assessment as a main scale teacher in line with College policies.
  • Apply principles and values expressed in the College’s Mission Statement.
  • Monitor and track each learner’s achievement using value‑added criteria, assessment and attendance to ensure potential is met.
  • Develop high‑quality resources, including schemes of work, teaching, learning and assessment materials and strategies.
  • Enhance the subject through enrichment, maximise student engagement.
  • Participate in department planning activities, reflecting student needs and College aims.
  • Adopt varied teaching and learning styles appropriate to post‑16 learners, integrating IT and online platforms into programmes.
  • Collaborate as part of a team and contribute to effective working relationships.
  • Undertake a suitable programme of teaching as a main scale teacher.
  • Assess students’ work following the College’s assessment policy.

Quality Assurance and Professional Development

  • Participate actively in staff development activities.
  • Engage in the College appraisal system.
  • Contribute to setting departmental targets and work towards their achievement.
  • Develop effective teaching and learning styles.
  • Participate in lesson observation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date information about students and their progress.
  • Attend liaison and information events, such as Open Mornings.
  • Communicate and consult with parents when appropriate, including report writing and attendance at Parents’ Consultation days.

Other responsibilities

  • Abide by the College’s Mission and Ethos Statement.
  • Promote safeguarding and welfare of children and young persons in line with College policy.
  • Observe College equality, diversity and health and safety requirements.
  • Assist in liaison with partner schools, higher education, industry, examination boards, awarding bodies and other relevant external bodies.
  • Attend College meetings as scheduled.
  • Create a stimulating teaching environment, adhering to the Health and Safety policy.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by the principal that correspond to the post’s character and responsibility level.
