Cinesite-London offers an opportunity for a Texture Artist in its Immersive department, with a hybrid model in London, Greater London. This fixed-term position requires experience working with tools such as Mari, Substance, Unreal, Photoshop, and Maya, and offers a creative and flexible environment, including remote and studio options.
Basic Function
Under the direction of the creative director, project supervisors, and department head, the candidate will create accurate digital textures from reference material and/or artistic concepts provided, coordinating daily with the CG supervisor for guidance and feedback.
The Role
- Create photorealistic textures for digital assets using photographic material and provided concept art.
- Collaborate closely with the modelling team to ensure proper positioning and scaling of UVs.
- Work with the Lead Generalist to ensure the best quality from texture to rendering.
- Troubleshoot representation issues of various materials, both organic and mechanical, achieving the best solution for each shot.
- Maintain high work standards while meeting established deadlines and schedules.
- Collaborate with the look development team to resolve technical issues and optimise assets for rendering.
- Communicate effectively with creative direction, coordinators, and leads, reporting on progress, technical issues, and recommendations.
- Coordinate with the modelling team to optimise UVs.
- Engage daily with supervisors and producers regarding progress and scheduling.
- Stay familiar with key tools such as Mari, Substance, and Unreal.
- Lead the implementation of standard best practices in the pipeline for texture artists based on professional experience.
Requirements
- Strong creative skills and a deep understanding of techniques for generating textures by combining photography and digital painting.
- Extensive knowledge of the texturing process, able to interpret designs and manipulate photographic materials.
- Previous experience in photorealistic texturing of organic and hard surfaces.
- Advanced proficiency in Photoshop, Substance, and Mari; knowledge in Maya, UVs, and Zbrush/Mudbox.
- Experience in Unreal.
- Knowledge in look development, especially shading.
- Strong understanding of colour space related to textures.
- Thorough knowledge of the visual effects (VFX) industry.
- Ability to work in a team and solve specific texturing problems.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
- Basic modelling skills are valued, although not essential.
