Witham Shifts Monday - Friday; Week 1 - 6:00 to 13:00; Week 2 - 13:00 to 20:00. We are working with an award-winning employer to grow their team as a Process Operator in the Witham area. This opportunity would suit those with an interest in science and who are looking to start a career within the industry. Previous experience is not essential; however, you must have a genuine interest in science, be highly organised, and able to work under pressure whilst maintaining accuracy and high standards. Full training will be provided. Due to the shift pattern, you must be a car driver or live within Witham and not reliant on public transport due to the shift patterns.
PURPOSE OF JOB
- To weigh out analytical samples for the laboratory.
- Load and unload the laboratory dishwashers; washing up laboratory glassware.
- Transport of materials and stores between Witham sites (by foot or using the company van).
- Sample preparation under the guidance of the chemist/Laboratory Supervisor.
DUTIES
- To undertake consistent and accurate laboratory weighing techniques and manipulation skills.
- To ensure that all assigned work is carried out in conformance with instructions, established methods and quality standards.
- To demonstrate consistent understanding of the material types and their relevant sample preparation.
- If the individual has a current driving license, to act as a porter to the other company units on the estate, using the company van.
- To learn and apply the role and importance of UKAS ISO 17025 and ISO 9001:2000 in the Laboratory.
- To ensure that equipment is efficiently and effectively used, and where directed, maintained.
- To ensure that good housekeeping and a clean, safe and tidy environment is maintained in the Laboratory.
- Other duties as directed by the Laboratory Supervisor.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To assist the team leader to weigh analytical samples to a high degree of accuracy and within preset times.
- To report to the Supervisor on any deviation from, or failure of methods, systems and procedures.
NECESSARY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Computer literate.
- The ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate with peers and local management.
- Ability to prepare and weigh with speed and accuracy, and have good attention for detail.
- Ability to work in an organised and disciplined manner.
- Must drive.

- Pension: 3.5% employee minimum contribution with 5% employer contribution; 3.5% employee contribution with 8% Employer contribution for Senior grades (Band 3 and above).
