Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent

Responsible for managing all aspects of the City’s wastewater program, including the plant, lab, and collection system. Oversees process control, bio-solids handling, equipment maintenance, and performs related duties as required. Manages the planning, scheduling, development, and implementation of daily activities, duties, special events, and projects at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP); supervises department personnel. May supervise water department personnel in the absence of the Public Works Director. Position requires emergency callback at any time.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED plus seven (7) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent experience and certification;
  • New Mexico Environment Department Utility Operator certification wastewater level IV;
  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license and ability to obtain CDL class B within 6 months of hire; must be insurable by City’s vehicle insurance provider.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED plus a Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Management, or equivalent from a four-year college or university; seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. State of New Mexico Wastewater Level IV operator certification/EPA certification as required for plant operations. 3. Valid New Mexico driver’s License, CDL-B (minimum), and insurable by City’s vehicle insurance carrier.

Special Requirements

City of Espanola employment application and proof of NMED certification required.
