About Nothing
Founded in London in 2020, Nothing is building a different kind of technology company — one that brings together the best of British design, brand building, and entrepreneurship with world-class global engineering and supply chain capabilities. From smartphones and audio products to AI-driven experiences, we create technology that looks better, feels different, and delivers exceptional value. Our mission is simple: to inspire human creativity by making tech fun.
At Nothing, design, emotion, and human creativity sit at the center of everything we do — not only in our products, but also in how we communicate, build culture, and connect with users around the world. In just a few years, we've grown from an ambitious startup into a global challenger brand, now present in 40+ markets with millions of users worldwide. Backed by leading investors including GV, EQT Ventures, and C Ventures, alongside industry leaders such as Tony Fadell, Casey Neistat, and Kevin Lin, we continue to redefine what a modern consumer technology brand can be.
About the Team
DTC at Nothing is where the brand meets the bottom line. We run direct commerce globally, and organic search is a channel we've never built properly. That changes now. You'll join on contract to build SEO end to end across our headless Shopify estate: the technical foundations, the international framework, and the search input into our website restructure. You'll report to the DTC Director and work directly with engineering to ship changes rather than hand over a list. The strategy, tooling and roadmap are yours to shape from the ground up.
What You'll Do
- Audit organic health across the headless Shopify estate and CMS, then build the technical foundation from scratch: crawlability, indexation, site architecture, canonicalisation, structured data, and Core Web Vitals on the headless front end.
- Own the SEO input into the website restructure: define the URL, architecture and internationalisation model and work with engineering to ship it.
- Set the SEO strategy and roadmap from scratch: priorities, KPIs, a forecast of organic's commercial contribution, and fixes sequenced by impact.
- Build the international framework across all markets: hreflang, geo-targeting, and canonical and duplication handling across storefronts, with the US as the priority market.
- Build for AI search alongside traditional: structure content to win snippets, People Also Ask and AI Overviews, monitor where Nothing surfaces across Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, and stand up a GEO testing framework with guardrails.
- Direct engineering on implementation: brief, prioritise and QA the technical work that ships.
- Partner with marketing and content on the editorial and category content search depends on, briefing intent and structure, and report organic performance with a clear read on what to do next.
What We're Looking For
- Deep, hands-on technical SEO: you've built foundations from scratch, not just optimised someone else's.
- International SEO at scale: you've run multi-market, multi-storefront search and know how hreflang, geo-targeting and duplication actually behave in production.
- Fluency with engineers: you can audit a headless stack, find what's costing organic visibility, and brief the fix in their language.
- Across GEO and AEO: you're already testing how brands surface in AI search and have a view on what works.
- Fluent in the tooling: Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, Semrush, Ahrefs.
- Comfortable with ambiguity: you've built where the playbook didn't exist and made calls on incomplete data.
- An ecommerce or consumer tech background, ideally somewhere that moved fast, with brand sensibility on top: you care how the site reads, not just how it ranks.
