About Nothing
Nothing exists to make tech feel exciting again. We're building a different kind of technology company, one that puts design, emotion, and human creativity at the heart of everything we do. Founded in London in 2020 and backed by GV, EQT Ventures, and C Ventures, we're now sold in 40+ markets with millions of users worldwide.
Over the last 4 years we have built a skilled interdisciplinary design team and a culture of ideas and innovation in our studio in King's Cross, London. We are looking for an experienced Lead-level Hardware Interaction Designer to join us to help invent the products of tomorrow.
Our audience is global, and technology needs new voices at the table, so we're serious about meeting designers of all genders, nationalities and backgrounds in order to build a balanced team with diverse perspectives.
Please note: this is not a purely digital design role. Demonstrable experience designing complex interaction systems that straddle both hardware and software is non-negotiable.
As a team, our Design practice covers a wide range of disciplines - Industrial Design, Engineering, Experience & Interaction Design, CMF, Connectivity, Graphic Design, Sound, and AI. In addition to your core design skills, we're interested to hear about your own superpowers, both in and out of work, and how they might contribute to our technological re-invention.
We expect the following of all of our designers:
- A bachelors degree or higher in engineering, industrial design or a related discipline.
- Incredible communication skills - verbal, visual and written.
- Sharp skills of observation and critical thought.
- Interesting and original idea generation and development.
- Creative and collaborative problem solving.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Intuitive flair for user-centered design.
- Honesty, transparency and empathy - we do what we say we're going to do and we look after each other.
- A highly tuned taste.
As a Hardware Interaction Designer at Nothing, you'll be central to shaping how our products work and feel, and so we are also looking for:
- An intuitive conviction about how things should work - you're probably frustrated by bad systems and interfaces all the time and know how to make them better.
- Experience in designing interaction systems which intersect hardware, software, and the invisible connective tissue between them.
- A hunger to build stuff - not just on screen, but IRL.
- Multi-modal thinking - buttons, screens, sound, voice, apps, light, motion, haptics. We design full-body product experiences which touch (nearly) every sense.
- An appetite to imagine, research, conceive, specify and pitch new features, systems or whole product concepts.
- A creative and technical practitioner who can wear many hats - you will be comfortable amongst both artists and engineers, and speak the language of both.
But most of all, we're looking for creative people on our wavelength. If you think you might be one of us, please get in touch.
