ARTIST OPEN CALL: DAISY CHAIN

ARTIST OPEN CALL: DAISY CHAIN

Full-Time No working from home possible
Noted

Marking the 60th anniversary of Věra Chytilová's groundbreaking experimental film Daisies (1966), DAISY CHAIN will commission six new artist moving image works alongside workshops, screenings and public events. This commission opportunity is one of the six.

Daisies, with its anarchic humour and rejection of convention, is a landmark of the Czech New Wave. It is a kaleidoscope of visual and sonic experimentation, offering a rich source of conceptual, thematic and aesthetic inspiration. Reflecting the film's collage-based visual language, shaped in part through Chytilová's collaboration with artist and costume/set designer Ester Krumbachová, the commissioned artists will be invited to work across both moving image and 2D/mixed-media formats.

In Adur and Worthing, three England-based artists will work collaboratively with older women, young women and LGBTQIA+ youth to develop new artworks in response to Daisies and shaped by participants' experiences, ideas and perspectives. At the same time, three artists in Czechia will create new commissions.

The resulting works will be shared through a programme of exhibitions, screenings, workshops and talks across England and Czechia in 2027, creating opportunities for international exchange, conversation and creative participation. Working closely with Prague-based NaFilM and Brighton-based videoclub, the project will reach audiences in both countries.

An artist fee of £4,200 (inclusive of VAT), plus travel, is paid in installments. There is an additional budget for materials for creative production, workshops and any exhibition outputs (e.g. print)
