Are you looking for the opportunity to collaborate with world‑leading scientific companies to shape their content strategy, and help them communicate their unique insights and innovations to their business customers? We’re strengthening our content team with a Science Writer who will partner closely with clients to translate their marketing aims into compelling content solutions and long‑term editorial strategies. If you’re as comfortable discussing reaction kinetics with a process engineer as you are crafting a thought‑leadership piece for their CTO, we want to hear from you.
At Notch, we bring science and creativity together. From our home in central Manchester’s Bond building, a Grade II listed space redesigned for collaboration, our teams of strategists, writers, creatives and account handlers work side by side to deliver work that makes a big impact for our clients in scientific industries and inspires audiences.
As a Science Writer, you will:
- Be a trusted content partner for your clients, understanding their business goals and competitive position well enough to shape content that serves both.
- Work across clients whose products and competitive edge are built on their science. You will own the scientific understanding that underpins our content, getting close enough to the chemistry, the processes, and the industries they serve to write with authority and earn client trust.
- Work in cross‑functional teams to deliver scientific content that integrates with our creative, digital, and strategic solutions.
- Contribute to conversations about what content to produce and why, not just execute briefs. You don’t need to be a strategist, but you should care about the thinking behind the work.
- Bring a curious mind and genuine depth in the physical or chemical sciences to create content that engages and informs business audiences.
- Support new business activity through storytelling that connects our content expertise to client needs in proposals and pitches.
From a Science Writer we expect:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in science communications, preferably in science writing or marketing, with a degree in a scientific discipline considered essential. Chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related physical science is preferred, though candidates from biology or adjacent life science backgrounds with demonstrable experience in chemistry‑led sectors will be considered.
- Demonstrable ability to work client‑facing, including presenting ideas confidently and managing stakeholder expectations around deliverables and timelines.
- Hands‑on experience creating content across multiple formats, such as articles, case studies, white papers, and thought leadership pieces. Experience in science journalism or science communications is meriting.
- A strategic mindset that understands not just how to write compelling content, but why each piece matters to both the client’s business goals and their target audience.
- A proactive approach that enables you to pick up complex scientific and industrial topics quickly and translate them for business audiences who are not just scientists but process engineers, procurement teams, and commercial leaders.
- Experience using AI tools to support your writing, research, or content workflows is considered beneficial.
What we offer:
- We’ll invest in your growth through training, mentorship, conferences and leadership development.
- And we’ll make sure you have balance, with wellness support, CSR opportunities, and plenty of fun at our social events.
Benefits include:
- Hybrid working — based in our central Manchester office at least two days per week, and flexibility to work from home.
- Professional development via Notch Labs and external training.
- Healthcare package and wellness support.
- Free on‑site gym.
