At Nosy Crow, we are extremely proud of our design team and of the design quality of our books. We aim to make Nosy Crow an environment where designers truly thrive, where they can do their best work, where they are listened to and valued.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented, hardworking and highly creative Designer or Senior Designer (dependant on experience) to work on our award-winning full-colour Non-Fiction list as it grows. This would involve designing books across our co-publishing lists with the National Trust, the British Museum and the University of Cambridge, as well as Nosy Crow own-brand titles. We make books about everything from dinosaurs and Egyptian mummies to the solar system and fashion!
If you are passionate about children’s book design, typography and enjoy working with illustrators, we’d love to hear from you. The candidate should already have a minimum of four years’ experience working in children’s publishing, ideally having already worked on children’s Non-Fiction titles.
This is a full-time position and is a hybrid role, working a minimum of three days per week in our office near to London Bridge. Nosy Crow is a multi-award winning, independent children’s publishing company with operations in both the UK and the USA. We make child-focused, parent-friendly children’s books for ages 0–12.
Purpose of the Job: The successful candidate will manage illustrated book projects from initial layouts all the way through to production, supporting the illustrator or the author/illustrator throughout the creative process. The job involves working closely with the rest of the Non-Fiction creative team to come up with new ideas, find new talent and work with experienced illustrators, commission new projects, and make sure that words and pictures are combined on the page as meaningfully and beautifully as possible.
Proficiency in Adobe programmes, excellent proven book design and typographic skills, and good organisational skills are also essential, along with good written and spoken communication skills and the ability to work to a deadline. We are a small, close team here at The Crow’s Nest, working in a friendly, highly creative environment and we need a team player who is willing to muck in, particularly during busy times!
The successful candidate will have the right to live and work in the UK. The salary range for this role will be between £35,000 and £40,000 depending on experience and suitability for the role.
