Nosy Crow is looking to recruit an organised and enthusiastic individual to join our busy team as a Contracts Assistant.
The Contracts Department handles approximately 1,500 contractual paperwork requests per annum which includes author and illustrator contracts, subsidiary rights agreements, licensing agreements, permission requests and other ad-hoc legal queries.
Nosy Crow is a multi-award winning, independent children’s publishing company with operations in both the UK and the USA. We make child-focused, parent-friendly children’s books for ages 0-12.
This is a full-time position and is a hybrid role, working a minimum of three days per week in our office near to London Bridge.
Purpose of the Job:
The role of Contracts Assistant is to assist the Contracts Team and the Rights Team with administrative tasks related to contracts management, rights management and renewal processes. This role would suit a recent publishing graduate or someone who is keen to kickstart their career in publishing or looking for in-house contracts and rights experience.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Work closely with the Contracts Team to implement a strong contracts management system across the company.
- Provide general contractual admin support and assist the Rights Team with contracts and renewals.
- Assist the Contracts Team with all contractual matters relating to our subsidiary company, Nosy Crow Inc.
- Create and maintain Head Contracts, Foreign Rights and Permissions logs, adding all new requests and keeping logs up-to-date.
- Help with permissions enquiries both inbound and outbound, entering data for Head Contracts and Foreign Rights Contracts onto the Biblio database, digitising and archiving physical contracts.
- Process contracts for signature using DocuSign and send out invoices.
- Assist ad-hoc editorial, rights, design, sales, publicity & marketing teams with queries related to previous contractual terms.
Key Skills, Characteristics and Capabilities:
- Interest in rights and contracts.
- Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Organised, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Previous work experience demonstrating reliability, teamwork, computer literacy and attention to detail, not necessarily in publishing.
- A team player with a willingness to be fully involved in the business.
- Interest in Copyright and Contract law (desirable).
- Opportunity to learn to draft contracts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential, including Excel.

The starting salary for this role is ÂŁ27,000.
