Job Title: Support Worker

Salary: £13 per hour/ £26,434.98 per annum

Hours: 39 hours per week

Shift pattern: 7am to 9pm

About Norwood:
Founded in 1795, Norwood is the oldest Jewish charity in the UK, and has been privileged to receive Royal Patronage since 1815. We support and empower neurodiverse children and their families and people with neurodevelopmental disabilities to live their best lives.

Norwood works with local authorities, to deliver wide-ranging services including residential and supported living accommodation and short-breaks facilities, as well as a range of support groups aimed at the whole family, not just the individual.

About Pamela Barnett:
Pamela Barnett is a residential home which supports sixteen people who are aged from their early twenties to their late sixties. All have severe learning disabilities and physical support needs. The majority of the people we support do not communicate verbally. Instead they use alternative methods of communication, i.e. Makaton, objects of reference, verbal sounds, facial expressions and body language.

All of the people living in Pamela Barnett require a high level of support in all aspects of their lives including personal care, eating & drinking, mealtimes and activities. They have varied hobbies and interests such as swimming, horse riding, trampolining, arts and crafts, baking, sensory sessions, music sessions, bingo, karaoke, meals out, theatre and cinema trips, bowling, walks, bike rides, music festivals and concerts, boat trips, skiing, tobogganing and holidays.

Typical shift times: 07:00–21:00 with a 1 hour unpaid break

As a Support Worker, you will provide day to day support including:
• Helping the people we support to be independent and live a fulfilling life

• Supporting & encouraging the development of personal skills through hobbies and interests

• Accompanying the people we support to routine appointments

• Teaching life skills such as budgeting, shopping and paying bills

• Assisting with personal care and administrating medication

• Assisting with household tasks such as cleaning & cooking

• Support alongside the Physical Activity Practitioner in the hydrotherapy pool

• Drive the home car (ideally you\’ll be a car driver) to take residents to appointments and outings

Essential:
• Previous experience as a Support Worker, supporting adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities

• Knowledge of safeguarding

• Be confident working in the hydrotherapy pool so the ability to swim or stand up in the water

• Flexibility to be able to commit to 39 hours per week, including some weekends

Desirable:
• Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate

• Moving and Positioning Certificate

• Administering Medication Certificate

• Ideally applicants will hold a clean UK driving license
