About the Role

We’re looking for dedicated Support Workers to join the team at Copper Beech, a small, person-centred home within Ravenswood Village. You’ll be supporting a close-knit group of adults with complex neurodevelopmental needs to live full and meaningful lives. This is a rewarding role where consistency, connection and communication make all the difference.

About Norwood

Founded in 1795, Norwood is the oldest Jewish charity in the UK. We support and empower neurodiverse children and their families and people with neurodevelopmental disabilities to live their best lives. At Norwood, you’ll make a real difference every day. You’ll be part of a supportive and inclusive team, guided by values of kindness, respect, empowerment and belonging. We invest in your growth, care about your wellbeing, and give you the pride of knowing your work changes lives.

About Copper Beech

Copper Beech is a single-storey home within the Ravenswood Estate, supporting four adults aged 20s to 60s with moderate to severe neurodevelopmental disabilities, including profound learning disabilities, autism, and additional needs such as epilepsy and mental health conditions as well as behaviours that challenge. Some residents communicate non-verbally; others use PECS, body language, gestures, or objects of reference. Each person has a Positive Behaviour Support plan, and your role will involve building strong, individualised communication and support routines. Residents enjoy a calm, structured environment with personalised activities, routines and opportunities for social engagement. Support needs include daily living tasks, personal care, leisure activity (such as swimming, rebound, walk/cycling & so on) and help to access the community. Shifts follow a 24-hour pattern, with days as well as waking night cover. The rota is planned around the needs and preferences of the people supported, not the other way around. You’ll be joining a tight-knit, values-led team committed to Kindness, Respect, Belonging, and Empowerment.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Support people with personal care, mealtimes (e.g. cooking), medication, and daily routines
  • Help people engage in hobbies, sensory activities and community outings
  • Use a variety of communication methods tailored to each person
  • Follow Positive Behaviour Support plans to ensure consistent, safe support
  • Support with household tasks and wellbeing
  • Drive the home vehicle for appointments or leisure

Experience, Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities or autism
  • Understanding of person-centred support and safeguarding
  • Ability to adapt communication and build trust
  • Able to commit to full-time hours, including weekends

Desirable:

  • Experience with epilepsy, mental health, or Positive Behaviour Support
  • Experience in engaging with people who have communication difficulties (e.g., objects of reference, Makaton, and so on)
  • Full, clean UK driving licence (minimum of 2 years)

We also welcome people new to care. If you’re caring, committed, and values-led, we’ll support you with full training and a thorough induction.

We believe great support starts with great staff. Here’s what we offer:

  • £13.00 per hour (plus overtime at £14.30 and Bank Holidays at £19.50)
  • Fully funded induction and training
  • 25 days annual leave + 8 Bank Holidays (FTE)
  • Enhanced parental pay
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Health cash plan covering dental, optical, and therapy treatments, with virtual GP access, private consultations, and wellbeing tools via the My Medicash App
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • £300 refer-a-friend bonus
  • Free on-site parking
  • A supportive, experienced team and management

We are a kind and compassionate community. Empowerment and respect are at the heart of everything we do and believe in at Norwood. If you are positive and resilient and a force for good, we are for you! We strive for excellence and to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support.
