About the Role

We’re looking for dedicated Female Support Workers to join the team at Pamela Barnett, a warm and lively residential home within Ravenswood Village, supporting adults with complex neurodevelopmental disabilities. You’ll be part of a close-knit team delivering person-centred care and building strong, trusting relationships with people who rely on you. This is more than a care role, it’s a chance to enable individuals to live full, enriched lives, in a setting that values community, dignity and empowerment.

About Norwood

Founded in 1795, Norwood is the oldest Jewish charity in the UK. We support and empower neurodiverse children and their families and people with neurodevelopmental disabilities to live their best lives. At Norwood, you’ll make a real difference every day. You’ll be part of a supportive and inclusive team, guided by values of kindness, respect, empowerment and belonging. We invest in your growth, care about your wellbeing, and give you the pride of knowing your work changes lives.

Pamela Barnett is a bright, ground-floor residential home located within the Ravenswood Estate, a unique care community in Berkshire. The home supports sixteen adults aged 20s to 70s with severe neurodevelopmental disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism, and physical support needs. Most residents are non-verbal and communicate using Makaton, objects of reference, facial expressions, or body language. So forming close, trusting relationships is key. The people we support live active and fulfilling lives. Hobbies include swimming, music, baking, arts and crafts, karaoke, theatre trips, holidays, and more. All require high levels of support, including personal care, hoisting, and 1:1 or 2:1 assistance. Shifts typically run from 07:00 to 21:00 and are planned around the needs and routines of the people we support, not just the rota. You’ll be joining a stable and values-led team committed to Kindness, Respect, Belonging, and Empowerment. We also welcome people new to care, as long as you’re caring, committed, and ready to make a difference.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Support people with their personal routines including personal care and meal preparation
  • Encourage independence through life skills like budgeting, shopping and social outings
  • Help people enjoy hobbies and interests: swimming, music, arts and outdoor activities
  • Accompany residents to health appointments and trips out
  • Work closely with our Physical Activity Practitioner, including in the hydrotherapy pool
  • Contribute to household tasks and maintain a welcoming home environment
  • Use a range of communication methods (Makaton, objects of reference, expressions)
  • Drive the home vehicle for activities and appointments (if you’re a driver)

Experience, Qualifications & Training

  • Previous experience supporting adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • Confident using alternative communication methods
  • Awareness of safeguarding practices
  • Comfortable working in a hydrotherapy setting (no swimming required)
  • Able to commit to full-time hours, including weekends
  • Emergency First Aid, Moving and Handling, or Medication Administration training
  • Full, clean UK driving licence

If you’re values-led and eager to learn, we also offer paid training and qualifications in Health & Social Care (Level 2–5). We believe great support starts with great staff.

Here’s what we offer:

  • £13.00 per hour (plus overtime at £14.30 and Bank Holidays at £19.50)
  • Fully funded induction and training
  • 25 days annual leave + 8 Bank Holidays (FTE)
  • Enhanced parental pay
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Health cash plan covering dental, optical, and therapy treatments, with virtual GP access, private consultations, and wellbeing tools via the My Medicash App
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • £300 refer-a-friend bonus
  • Free on-site parking
  • A supportive, experienced team and management

We are a kind and compassionate community. Empowerment and respect are at the heart of everything we do and believe in at Norwood. If you are positive and resilient and a force for good, we are for you! We strive for excellence and to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support. Our team is one of our biggest assets. We nurture a supportive environment for our people, with tailored training and career development at all levels.

We reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications. We actively celebrate everyone’s different abilities, sexual orientation, ethnicity, faith, and gender. Everyone is welcome and supported in their development at all stages in their journey with us.
