An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced candidate to join The Operations department at Norwich City Football Club in the role of Pitch Runner. The Pitch Runner will support the safe and efficient operation of football matches, ensuring a swift response to pitch incursions, maintaining perimeter security, and assisting with crowd control in line with club and stadium safety protocols.
Key tasks/responsibilities
- Monitor the pitch perimeter throughout the match and respond promptly to any unauthorized access or breaches.
- Assist in the safe and controlled removal of pitch intruders, ensuring minimal disruption to the game.
- Act as a visible deterrent to prevent supporters from entering the field of play.
- Communicate clearly with the Control Room and stewarding team via radio (if required).
- Liaise with the Matchday Safety Officer, police and relevant security / authorities during incidents or emergencies.
- Maintain clear walkways and ensure access routes around the pitch are unobstructed.
- Assist with pre-match and post-match setup and crowd control duties if required.
- Provide a high level of customer service to fans while ensuring rules and regulations are followed.
- Attend mandatory briefings and training sessions.
- Act in a manner that supports the Club’s Values of Growth, Integrity, Belonging, Resilience, Pride and Commitment.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in event security, stewarding, or crowd management is desirable but not essential.
- Physically fit and able to respond quickly and safely to incidents on or near the pitch.
- Calm under pressure, with the ability to handle challenging situations professionally.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Must be able to remain standing for long periods and work in all weather conditions.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum age: 18
- Right to work in the UK
- Willing to undergo background checks (e.g., DBS if required)
- Availability on matchdays (typically weekends and occasional evenings)
Desirable Requirements
- Level 2 Certificate in Spectator Safety or willingness to complete relevant training
- First Aid certification
