Have you turned a legal requirement into a workflow, control or product that people actually use?
Norven is looking for a product-focused legal specialist to work directly with our CEO and CTO. You will help translate legal and regulatory judgement into practical decision criteria, evidence requirements and tests for an AI governance product.
We are an early-stage company developing tools to help organisations establish appropriate boundaries for consequential AI systems and evidence the decisions behind them. We are building our prototype, with an initial focus on UK financial services.
The work
Working alongside the CTO, you will take a defined workflow and:
- Identify the relevant obligations, source material and questions that must be answered before a decision can be made.
- Translate those requirements into clear product criteria, recording assumptions, exceptions and areas requiring judgement.
- Create realistic test cases, including missing information, conflicting requirements and cases that should be referred to a human.
- Test the implementation with the engineering team and investigate where outputs differ from the intended legal reasoning.
- Explain what a successful check establishes, what it leaves unproven and what evidence should be retained.
- Help keep demonstrations and customer descriptions consistent with the product's actual capabilities.
This is a hands-on product role. You will contribute directly to specifications and testing, with the founders retaining ownership of product priorities and risk appetite. Corporate legal work and general commercial contracting sit in the separate GC remit.
Experience we would value
You may be a legal engineer in legaltech or RegTech, a privacy or AI-governance lawyer working with product teams, or a financial-services legal or regulatory specialist who has implemented automated controls.
The most useful evidence is something you personally helped build or implemented. We want to understand the requirement, what you produced, how it was tested and what you learned when it did not work as expected.
You should bring:
- Strong legal or regulatory analysis in a relevant domain, particularly UK data protection or financial-services regulation.
- Experience translating requirements into product specifications, decision logic, automated controls or tested workflows.
- Confidence working directly with engineers and explaining ambiguity, exceptions and the limits of automation.
- Clear writing and a willingness to work on the detail in an early-stage team.
Experience with AI evaluation, legal reasoning datasets, privacy engineering or legal automation would be valuable. Familiarity with both privacy and financial-services regulation is helpful, but we do not expect one person to be an expert in every area. Coding and cloud-platform expertise are welcome, rather than requirements.
A legal qualification is preferred; please state your jurisdiction. We also welcome experienced legal engineers or regulatory technologists, with qualified specialist review agreed for any legal interpretation outside their remit. We assess relevant experience and delivered work rather than a fixed PQE threshold.
Working together
This is a paid fractional engagement of one to two days a week, with scope and fees agreed before starting and an initial review after 90 days. We expect regular collaboration in UK working hours, primarily Monday to Wednesday, with occasional meetings in London.
You will work directly with the founders and influence the product while its first workflows and evaluation approach are taking shape.
