The Claims Team is a key function within our legal transformation program, Transform. The Claims Team is a team of 12 claims professionals working on some of our highest profile mandates, particularly in the aviation and payments sectors.
This role will be focused on management of County Court disputes, primarily for corporate clients, seeking to assist them with all manner of disputes, which whilst generally small claims often involve considerable complexity. As a Senior Claims Controller, you will be responsible for providing the highest standard of claims management and colleague support. You will play a critical part in our service delivery and in achieving outcomes for key clients of the firm. You will also support the growth of our firm and client offerings from our Newcastle office, currently handling all types of dispute resolution and litigation for a growing client base.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigating claims liability within regulatory guidelines, ensuring indemnity spend is controlled.
- Organise, monitor and control a caseload of complex or strategic litigated matters ‘end-to-end’, ensuring best outcome for clients and the firm.
- Effectively communicate with stakeholders internally and externally to minimize time-related pressures associated with their deliverables and your needs.
- Confidently and accurately defend claims, challenging any third parties where appropriate.
- Accurately validate and assess claims and correspondence, ensuring deadlines are met and processes adhered to, maximizing reduction in time to respond and cost.
- Develop and coach colleagues and carry out quality checks as required, providing and receiving 360 feedback supporting a culture of continuous improvement & colleague development.
- Identifying and investigating matters for escalation to receive appropriate specialist guidance from internal stakeholders.
- Preparing documents and responses to ensure litigated matters follow CPR guidance, discussing and making recommendations or negotiations on settlement and defense matters.
- Recording of data and assisting with analysis when required.
- Working with process and product owners to present or deliver training and coaching as required.
- Assisting and supporting Claims Management and wider senior colleagues in their remit as required.
Essential Skills and Experience Required:
- In-depth and demonstrable experience in Claims and Litigation management & principles.
- Proven experience in coaching, mentoring and developing more junior colleagues.
- Evident background in reviewing colleagues’ work to ensure correct procedures have been followed.
- Strong technical understanding of claims handling principles and best practices.
- Experience of working in a fast-paced professional environment preferred.
- Ability to present information effectively.
- Ambitious and keen to learn new technologies, tools and systems.
- Demonstrate ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders across all levels.
- Responsible and resilient with a proactive attitude.
- Flexible approach to problem solving.
- Keen attention to detail, possessing and maintaining strong organisational skills to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work well within a team and to be adaptable to changing work environments and demands.
- Proven forward planning skills and ability to take ownership in a multi-task environment.
- High levels of computer literacy and competence, including good working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Desirable:
- Knowledge and understanding of litigation matters.
- Ideally has experience working in a claims environment as a claims professional or as a paralegal.
- Has attained an undergraduate degree, or is working towards one.
- Ability to work overtime during busy periods would be helpful (but not essential).
