The Finance Systems Team is responsible for supporting the core EMEA finance system (Aderant Sierra), including time, billing, expenses, vendors, tax and reporting. We are seeking a Developer, ideally with Aderant and Finance Operations experience and/or knowledge, to join our EMEA team. This role translates user needs into functional solutions by designing, developing and implementing Aderant customisations of Classic and Framework forms, inquiries, rules and workflows, and integrations with related practice management systems, troubleshooting technical issues and making updates to enhance application performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering and Collaboration: collaborate with business partners to translate business needs into functional and system requirements to support application changes and business processes.
  • Designing and Coding: plan, design, customise, test, and deploy financial system changes, including integration with third-party applications and interfaces. Develop and modify forms, inquiries, rules, data structures, workflows and integrations using the DocuDraft and DesignStudio toolkits.
  • Data Extraction and Provision: develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and data endpoints to enhance financial data processing, business intelligence, and integration with web and financial applications. Design and implement scalable data solutions for finance applications, including optimised data models and ETL (extract, transform, load) pipelines to ensure efficient data processing, storage, and reporting.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting: collaborate with business partners and testers to define, coordinate, and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and to identify and resolve issues and errors.
  • End-user Support: provide second- and third-tier analysis and support of financial applications, to resolve issues through to ticket close out.
  • Maintenance: deliver and maintain tasks related to provision and support of financial systems, including business requirements, level of effort estimates, system specifications, data mapping and troubleshooting documentation.

Skills and Experience Required

We are seeking someone with strong analytical problem-solving skills and a history of working with financial systems. You will need to be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders at all levels across the business, particularly among IT, finance operations and third-party providers. You'll also need the following skills and experience:

  • Degree educated in computer science or software engineering and/or 5+ years of experience in similar roles.
  • Expert SQL proficiency and experience with development tools.
  • Knowledge of the Aderant Expert Classic and Framework platform, including customisation, database structure, and DesignStudio advantageous.
  • Experience within a law firm or other professional services environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with core finance processes and principles (general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, forecasting, reporting) ideal.
  • Ideally experienced with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to upskill on the job through internal and external training.
  • Able to demonstrate discretion, sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Team player - flexible and willing to take on extra responsibilities to support departmental or firm objectives.
