The Role
We are seeking a highly capable and commercially minded Data Protection Manager to support and promote strong privacy practices for all TVS Europe companies and TVS European activities including the Norton Motorcycle Co. Limited, and various other European TVS entities. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with data protection laws, executing European privacy strategy, and embedding privacy by design across the organisation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data protection laws and a proactive approach to privacy management and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with growing and evolving companies. Although the primary focus of this role is data privacy, the individual may be required to coordinate roll out of other group compliance policies across the European companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the “go to” data protection person for all TVS Europe businesses - Act as the key point of contact and subject matter expert for all data protection queries for the TVS Europe businesses.
- Work closely with our group data privacy function to ensure consistent and thorough roll out and visibility of policy and controls to all European companies.
- Manage relevant assessments, including conducting a review of the assessment and providing advice on Threshold DPIAs, DPIAs, LIAs, Supplier Due Diligence Questionnaires and Data Transfer Risk Assessments.
- Manage any data subject requests, training and communications and manage the Records of Processing Activities.
- With support from the TVS Europe General Counsel and the Group Data Privacy team, establish appropriate external support arrangements for data protection across Europe which may include outsourced data protection officer services in certain jurisdictions.
- As required to ensure robust compliance, manage and work closely with external legal advisers and outsourced data protection officers in different European jurisdictions.
- Establish and manage the relationship with key data privacy representatives and stakeholders in relevant group companies across Europe including coordination of training, governance meetings.
- Lead and coordinate all required reporting on data privacy issues to the group data privacy function.
- Develop and maintain knowledge banks and resources, such as guidance documents and playbooks related to data protection.
- Support functional areas with advice related to data protection.
- Conduct horizon-scanning and document changes in DP laws and the regulatory environment.
Essential Requirements
- Experience and understanding of data protection work obtained in a comparable environment.
- Recognised legal or data privacy qualification (e.g. CIPP/E, CIPP/M or equivalent).
- Experience and interest in developing strong business relationships including a willingness to travel if required.
- Flexibility in supporting a broad range of data protection issues across multiple companies and jurisdictions.
- Ability to understand organisations, their business model and processes including the ability to critically evaluate the data protection and privacy framework and identify areas of improvement.
- Good up to date knowledge of key data protection regulation specifically in the UK and EU.
- Confident team player, proactive and focused on delivery.
- Resilient with an ability to work in a flexible environment with companies which are growing and evolving.
- Self-organised and structured with ability to manage own workload.
- The ideal candidate needs to see and be passionate about the opportunity and be willing to grow and develop as the companies do.
Desirable
- Knowledge of data protection regulations beyond the UK and EU (particularly Switzerland) would be advantageous.
- The ability to speak a European language, in particular French, German or Italian.
- Wider experience of managing compliance in a European business.
