Powertrain Engineer (Contract – 6 Months) – Norton Motorcycles Ltd, Solihull, West Midlands

The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Powertrain Engineer to join our Engineering team on a six‑month contract. The successful candidate will design, model and detail powertrain components using CAD software, including engines, transmissions and related sub‑systems. Strong mechanical design skills, proficiency with Creo 3D CAD, and a passion for high‑performance motorcycles are essential.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings of powertrain components (engine cases, cylinder heads, crankshafts, transmission gears, covers, intakes, exhausts, etc.)
- Create assemblies and integrate them into complete motorcycle models, ensuring compatibility and packaging feasibility
- Support the design and development of internal combustion engines and hybrid/electric powertrains
- Perform tolerance stack‑ups, material selection and design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including manufacturing, testing, procurement and vehicle integration
- Conduct design reviews and implement feedback from simulation, validation and prototype testing
- Maintain CAD libraries and adhere to CAD standards and revision control processes
- Liaise with suppliers for part feasibility, manufacturability and cost optimisation
- Document and manage design changes through engineering change processes
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of CAD design experience in the automotive or motorcycle industry
- Proficiency with PTC Creo
- Strong understanding of powertrain systems and mechanical design principles
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
Preferred Skills
- Experience with motorcycle powertrains specifically
- Familiarity with PLM system Windchill
