One of my leading clients, a digital consultancy, are currently looking to hire a Technical Writer to join an end client of theirs in the health care space for an initial 3 month contract.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively work with product teams and engineering teams to understand the services, products and processes that are being offered to developers, including:
  • Design principles and contribution opportunities
  • APIs, data models, micro-frontends and SDKs
  • On-boarding, usage and troubleshooting services
  • Development processes, constraints and guidance
  • Independently use/test platform services and assets to gain real working knowledge of how they work
  • Efficiently write/edit documentation for developers to serve the entire lifecycle of platform usage including:
    • Quick start/tutorials for prioritised developer jobs to be done
    • Developer how-to guides for on-boarding, platform tool usage and development
    • Developer guides for contributing and using platform assets
  • Continuously improve developer experience assets based on testing and feedback with users
  • Work with product and engineering teams to improve service offerings
  • Optionally - develop developer experience tools to complement guides and tutorials
  • Skills required:

    • Strong writing skills (can be AI assisted) - must be able to produce good draft material very fast
    • Knowledge and past experience of working on automated tech documentation generation tools like Backstage and their integration with Github, Google GCS; and knowledge of Confluence templates for piecing together appropriate documentation.
