Knowledge Engineer, Ontology Engineer, Fully Remote, Circa £80-100k+

We are seeking an experienced Ontology Engineer / Knowledge Engineer to join our client\’s innovative team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of ontology development and management, with a focus on using OWLReady2 Python, Protégé, and various reasons.

This role involves designing, building, and testing ontologies to support the organization\’s objectives, improving data interoperability, and contributing to knowledge representation and reasoning projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust ontologies using OWLReady2 in Python, ensuring compatibility with existing data models and standards.
  • Utilise Protégé for ontology modelling, editing, and visualization, ensuring a high level of accuracy and detail.
  • Implement and configure reasoners (eg, Pellet, HermiT, Fact++) for logical inference, validation, and optimization of ontologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand domain-specific needs and integrate ontologies with various applications and systems.
  • Conduct ontology testing and validation to ensure quality, consistency, and performance, utilising both manual and automated testing methodologies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor\’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field. A Master\’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • Proven experience in ontology development using OWLReady2 and Protégé.
  • Strong understanding of logic-based reasoning engines and their application in ontology testing and validation.
  • Proficiency in Python programming, with a focus on data manipulation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with semantic web technologies (RDF, SPARQL) and standards (OWL, SKOS).
