Northwood Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to be considered when adjunct and/or substitute instructors are needed to teach Truck Driving behind the wheel.

  • Acquiring and applying technology to working and learning.
  • Assist students in the Truck Driving Program.
  • Administer student road evaluations.
  • Assist with pre/post trip inspections, shifting, coupling/uncoupling trailers, driving the semi, and other hands-on activities involving the vehicle.
  • Assist in determining the student’s ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicles on the driving ranges and on public roadways, monitor their progress, log hours, and provide feedback to the students.
  • Provide guidance in emergency driving and skid control techniques.
  • Demonstrate vehicle operation, including shifting techniques, how to couple and uncouple semi-trailer combinations, vehicle inspection, and scaling.
  • Demonstrate and supervise students driving in a variety of environments and conditions.
  • Teach basic skills and maneuvers as outlined in the WI CDL driver's manual.
  • Fuel trucks as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:

    • Degree & Experience Required: Five years of related experience with at least two recent years, OR an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License and Federal Medical Certificate.
    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to drive all truck (and trailer preferred) combinations offered in the truck driving program. Ability to communicate effectively with students, instructors, truck supply and maintenance personnel, trucking company personnel, and Motor Vehicle Department representatives by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically and adapting communication for audience. Basic knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Preferred Degree & Experience Required: Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in Transportation.

    Salary: FY25 Salary - Teaching Specialist - $38.00 / hour
