This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the future of private healthcare in Bristol. Northwood Hospital has opened in October 2025 as a premier, purpose-built private facility, conveniently located near the M32 and Bristol Parkway station. With two state-of-the-art operating theatres, an eight-bed inpatient ward, a six-bed day case suite, and three consulting rooms, the hospital will initially focus on plastic and reconstructive surgery, with plans to expand into gynaecology, urology, and orthopaedics.

We have a space for a dynamic, forward-thinking ward nurse who will promote excellence in all aspects of in-patient care. You will assist the nurse in charge with responsibility for the management of the ward and day case suite. This includes the assessment of care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care to a high standard.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe person-centred care, working pro-actively and on your feet.
  • Administer medication and treatment in line with Hospital procedure and medical guidelines for ordering, prescribing and administration of medicines.
  • Undertake telephone follow up of day case patients and those discharged.
  • Administrative duties including inputting and maintaining accurate patient records, and using training systems.
  • Report near misses and untoward incidents, complaints, clinical emergencies, injury or medicine administration errors as detailed in the departmental protocols. Assist lead staff in investigating incidents as required.
  • Constructively and openly question and challenge practice so that standards of care are continually evaluated and improved.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of standards of practice, policy, protocols including Clinical Governance and Quality, in conjunction with lead staff.
  • Participate in audits.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality regarding patient issues and records.
  • Work in accordance with the Hospital's values at all times.
  • Ensure you have access to and are familiar with all Hospital Policies and Procedures, and Professional Code of Conduct, and work in accordance with these at all times.
  • To adopt a pro-active and positive approach to your own continuing professional development to continually improve your skills and add value to our ways of working, including by undertaking all training required for your role.
  • To be personally accountable for your actions and behaviours, ensuring a safe and inclusive working environment based on dignity and respect, and free from bullying, harassment, discrimination or other undesirable conduct.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as requested, commensurate with the level and nature of the role.

Person Specification

  • Degree in nursing or health related subject.
  • RGN 1st Level.
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Relevant accredited post registration qualification at level 3.
  • Relevant ward surgical experience, and good knowledge of perioperative care.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and post-registration experience in acute nursing in a hospital setting.
  • Competency in medication administration including intravenous medication.
  • An understanding of evidence-based practice.
  • Proven management experience and skills.
