Position Title: Teacher- Special Education - School Age
Department: Social Emotional Learning Schools
Location: Meadowlark Academy
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP)
- Experience in the education of children who exhibit behaviour and emotional disorders
- Valid Driver's License; available transportation and proof of auto insurance
- Bilingual and biliteracy skills preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development, modelling inclusive behaviours, and proactively managing bias
- Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations
- Confer regularly with immediate supervisor
- Proficient in the use of computer and internet-based applications, including but not limited to email, internet software, Google Suite, and word processing (MS Word)
- Ability to work with a very high degree of accuracy and organisational skills
- Ability to analyse problems, provide recommendations, and implement solutions with a high degree of accuracy
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills, and the ability to deal with a variety of situations
- Ability to lead work with minimal supervision, communicate clearly, and prioritise, manage, and delegate multiple projects
- Strong decision-making abilities
- Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the unique needs of students
- Provide direct instructions to students in various subjects, tailoring teaching methods to suit individual learning styles
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure inclusive classroom practices
- Develop and implement instructional programs that address the targeted needs on the IEP
- Utilize appropriate strategies (behavioural and instructional), materials, and other available resources that will assist the students to achieve the goals and objectives that are addressed in the IEP
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed
- Participate in regular progress staffing on identified students
- Conduct assessments and participate in the development of IEP goals and objectives
- Foster a positive and respectful classroom atmosphere that promotes student engagement and social-emotional growth
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student performance and progress
- Attend professional development sessions to stay current with best practices in special education
- Perform other job duties as assigned
