Behavior Assistant – Meadowlark Academy
Northwest Regional Education Service District invites applications for a Behavior Assistant in the Social Emotional Learning classroom at Meadowlark Academy, St. Helens. The role reports to the Principal and is a 0.9375 FTE position earning $23.24–$27.77 per hour under the OSEA bargaining unit.
General Description
The Behavior Assistant supports students K‑12 who require social, emotional, and behavioral learning assistance. Duties include implementing individualized behavior support plans, collecting data for assessments and progress monitoring, and applying proactive strategies, reinforcement, and de‑escalation techniques.
Responsibilities
- Prepare instructional and behavior‑support materials for use in classroom and school‑wide settings.
- Assist students with behavioral strategies to teach appropriate social behaviors aligned with learning goals.
- Apply de‑escalation and crisis‑minimization techniques daily to maintain safety.
- Collaborate with teachers, instructional assistants, and behavior consultants to support student progress.
- Communicate student progress to instructional teams and gather data for monitoring.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development activities.
- Maintain regular attendance and perform additional clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).
- At least 2 years experience working with youth experiencing behavioral and mental health challenges.
- Certificates in First Aid/CPR, Safety Care Training, and positive behavior support strategies.
- Preferred: post‑secondary coursework in Psychology, Child Development, Behavioral Health, or related field.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for job use.

- Support individual behavior interventions that are developmentally appropriate.
- Implement and model alternative communication strategies and assistive technology.
- Provide clerical support to the educational program and classroom requirements.
- Support professional development and coaching to other classified staff under licensed staff direction.
