Job purpose: The Business Development Manager will play a key role in expanding NWEH’s commercial footprint across the life sciences sector. The role focuses on developing new sponsor and partner relationships, identifying commercial opportunities and translating sponsor research needs into solutions leveraging NWEH’s technical capabilities. Working closely with the Sales Director, Head of Product and the wider commercial team, the role will support the growth of NWEH’s pipeline and revenue. The position sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, sponsor engagement and solution development, helping position NWEH as a leading partner for tech enabled research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Development: Build and maintain a strong pipeline of commercial opportunities across the pharmaceutical and CRO sectors. Responsibilities include:
    • Identifying and engaging potential sponsor organisations
    • Developing relationships with clinical development, medical affairs and real-world evidence teams
    • Proactively generating new opportunities aligned with NWEH’s capabilities
    • Maintaining visibility of opportunities within the CRM pipeline
  • Sponsor and Partner Engagement: Develop strong relationships across the life sciences ecosystem to increase awareness of NWEH’s capabilities. Activities include:
    • Representing NWEH at industry events and conferences
    • Building relationships with pharmaceutical sponsors, CROs and research partners
    • Maintaining ongoing engagement with prospective clients
  • Opportunity Development and Solution Shaping: Work collaboratively across the organisation to translate sponsor needs into commercial opportunities. This includes:
    • Understanding sponsor study requirements and research challenges
    • Working with product and operational teams to shape potential solutions
    • Contributing to proposal development and commercial discussions
    • Supporting the Sales Director in progressing opportunities through to contract
  • Market Intelligence: Develop a strong understanding of the clinical research and real-world data landscape. Responsibilities include:
    • Monitoring industry trends and competitor activity
    • Identifying emerging opportunities for NWEH across key therapeutic areas
    • Feeding insights into product development and commercial strategy
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to ensure commercial opportunities align with organisational capabilities. Key relationships include:
    • Commercial team
    • Operational teams supporting study delivery

Experience and Skills

  • Essential: Experience in business development or partnerships within life sciences, clinical research, healthcare data or digital health. Strong understanding of pharmaceutical clinical development and research environments. Experience developing commercial relationships with pharmaceutical companies, CROs or research organisations. Ability to translate complex capabilities into clear commercial opportunities. Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Desirable: Experience in patient recruitment, real-world evidence, health data platforms or clinical trial delivery. Understanding of UK healthcare systems and primary care research. Experience working with research networks or health data environments.
