We have an exciting opportunity within Northumbrian Water Group as a Maintenance Team Manager in the Howdon, Tyne and Wear area. As Team Manager you will provide high quality leadership to a large team of frontline maintenance technicians of various disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation) in their activities to maintain and repair plant and machinery across the water and wastewater directorates.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring the maintenance team are all current and competent in respect to their core trade skills, plant specific knowledge, business process and system skills and safety procedures and policies and to support individual development. We’re looking for you to be a role model of safety leadership whilst driving a safety culture within their work area and deliver full compliance to all safety control processes as well as supporting a proactive approach to risk control, reduction and elimination making sure all our people go home safe every day.

You’ll manage key stakeholders in the organisation, owning and reporting on maintenance performance as well as handling high impact incidents and escalations. You will create an environment for your team to thrive and deliver great results as well as building trust and clear communications with our customers. In addition, you will promote a culture where everyone has a great experience at work bringing about positive outcomes for people, our business, our customers and the wider communities. As part of this role, you will work on a standby rota arrangement.

We are looking for someone with a Maintenance / Engineering background that will promote and drive a culture of continuous improvement within the department. You will have experience leading a multi discipline Maintenance team, along with proven experience managing minor projects and the ability to understand, interpret, evaluate, and manage project plans relating to procedural, systems and physical change. You will also have proven practical experience in a technical role.

You will be able to adapt to fast changing priorities in an operational world and be able to work under pressure to ensure results. You will be able to communicate clearly and confidently to a range of audiences both verbally and in writing, and the ability to quickly establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

We’re looking for you to have a proven understanding of engineering principles in at least one discipline, as well as the broad requirements of technical safety legislation (PUWER, EAWR, PSSR, DSEAR, COSHH, LOLER). You’ll also have proven working knowledge of internal safety control processes (PTW, LOTO, CDM, Risk Assessment, and Electrical Safety Process).

We’re also looking for you to have a BTEC ONC or HNC in an electrical, mechanical or electronic discipline and proven experience in a leadership & management and/or qualification in a business-related subject. We are also looking for someone who has gained, or is working towards, professional registration with the Engineering council.
